Business Owners Learn Social Media

What is all the talk about "My Face, LinkedTube and TwitIn ..." or is that Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter. If you are confused, you are not alone, but how does the average business owner learn this new language for results? Here are a few easy steps to help make the leap to social media.

First of all, it's just communication and that is nothing new. We have been communicating about business for years. All that has changed is the medium. What was it like when the phone came about? I'm sure people said "I don't have time for this telephone stuff, I have work to do". Yet, we found a way to integrate the telephone into our daily work life and have used it to produce results. The same goes for Social Media.

Second, you didn't learn to ride a bike by reading a book or just talking about it. You got on it and tried and after a few scrapes and bumps later you were off to the races. That's the way it is with Social Media, just try it and work with it so you will understand the dynamics and how it works.

Third, it's about relationships. Business people have been connecting at Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Reading Clubs, and Social Clubs; Networking events like BNI, golf clubs and sporting events, then building business relationships. This is exactly what is happening in Social Media today. We simply connect on line in addition to meeting in person or in place of meeting in person. Sometimes we meet on line then meet in person.

So post your picture on LinkedIn or Facebook and reach your virtual hand out to meet and greet people in the world of the internet. Yes, sales will follow, business will get done and experts will be found, just like we have been doing for years in the real world.
